Self Improvement
The element of personal growth that martial arts contributes to is your physical health. Even if changes to your health and fitness aren't your primary goals for practicing martial arts, these physical improvements will still positively affect your lifestyle. In addition, as you gain strength and fitness on the Dojo, you can take this physical strength and endurance to other areas of your life. It is the desire to improve ourselves in all aspects of our lives. The fundamental objective of self-improvement is to become the best version of yourself. Kaizen is the Japanese practice of continuous improvement and refers to activities that continually strive to improve all functions from the Sensei to the students.
Self Confidence
Building confidence is one of the most important benefits that children can gain from learning karate. Through physical activity and mental training, kids can develop the courage and self-assurance necessary to face challenges and succeed in life. Karate teaches children to believe in themselves and their abilities, and helps to foster a positive self-image. Overcoming obstacles and achieving new goals, kids can quickly learn and gain a sense of empowerment and pride that will carry over into other aspects of their lives. In combination with the other benefits of karate, such as improved concentration, discipline, and social skills, learning this martial art can contribute greatly to a child's overall well-being and success.
Self Discipline
Learning karate not only builds physical strength and flexibility, but it also instills discipline and healthy habits in children. By following the rules and structure of karate classes, children quickly learn the importance of self-discipline and can apply these skills to other areas of their lives. In addition, practicing karate encourages healthy habits such as eating a balanced diet, getting enough rest, and staying hydrated, which are essential for maintaining optimal physical performance. Ultimately, karate fosters a sense of responsibility in children, teaching them to take ownership of their actions and make positive choices for their well-being. By learning these valuable life skills, children will be better prepared for success both in and out of the training centre.
Self Respect
Is a fundamental principle in the martial arts. It is the foundation for all other attributes and behaviours such as courtesy, integrity, humility, courage and kindness. Self-respect is a key to personal growth and success in life because it helps us to have the confidence to take on challenges and be successful in them. In martial arts, self-respect plays an important role because it gives us the framework to face our opponents without fear. The ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius said that self-respect is the basis of all morality.
Self-respect is important in martial arts because it helps us keep our focus on what we are doing, plus helps us to avoid anger and frustration when things don't go as planned or when we are faced with an obstacle that seems insurmountable.
Self Control
Is one of the most important traits to have as a person. Knowing yourself and knowing what you are capable of in certain situations, this comes in handy in every situation of life. It’s good to master self-control early, as children, so that later on, as adults, we know ourselves a little better. One great way to learn and practice self-control is in the Dojo. This is most especially important in children, as self-control isn’t a lesson that is taught much in academics. The first step to learning and practicing self-control is understanding what we are capable of physically and mentally. Martial arts is the perfect vessel for practitioners to dive deep into their capabilities and learn what they can and cannot do. Once we understand what we are capable of, we learn how we affect the world through our actions. Throughout our lives, we will be faced with many situations where we have to exhibit self-control. It’s good to pick up this quality early in our lives so we can properly apply it later on as adults. When sparring with a karate partner, you must exercise self-control or else you may end up injuring your partner or getting injured yourself! Your sensei will teach you how to control both your aggression and your strikes. Instead of actually hitting your training partner, you will learn how to stop just short of the target area.
